DebateArena ("we", "us") is a competitive debate platform. This policy explains what data we collect, why, and how it's handled.

Data We Collect

Account data: username, email address, and hashed password when you register
Debate activity: debate history, submitted arguments, ratings, and performance statistics
Usage data: pages visited, session duration, and interactions — collected via Microsoft Clarity (see below)

Microsoft Clarity

We use Microsoft Clarity for session recording and heatmaps. Clarity may record mouse movements, clicks, and scrolling to help us understand how the site is used. Clarity may set cookies and collect device/browser information. You can opt out via Microsoft's privacy settings. We do not use this data to identify individuals.

How We Use Your Data

To operate your account and match you with opponents
To calculate and display ratings, leaderboards, and statistics
To improve site performance and fix bugs

Data Storage

Data is stored in Supabase (PostgreSQL), hosted on AWS infrastructure in the United States. Supabase acts as a data processor under appropriate data processing terms.

Advertising

We do not run advertisements or share data with ad networks.

Data Retention

We retain account data for as long as your account is active. You may request deletion of your account and associated data by contacting us.

Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete your personal data under GDPR, CCPA, or similar laws. To exercise these rights, contact us.

Cookies

We use session cookies necessary for authentication. Microsoft Clarity may set additional cookies for analytics. We do not use advertising cookies.
